The 1972 GT-class winning Ferrari 365 GTB/4 'Daytona' Competizione, chassis 15667, ran as number 39 by Charles Pozzi.

Jean-Claude Andruet and Claude Ballot-Léna drove it to fifth overall and first in the GT (GTS 5.0) class, covering 306 laps. It also took the Index of Thermal Efficiency, the fuel-economy prize that in period often mattered as much as the class win. It started 28th, with a qualifying time of 4:25.4, and still finished only one lap behind the fourth-placed Alfa Romeo prototype.

15667 was one of the second series of factory Competizione Daytonas built for private teams in 1972. Those cars kept a steel body rather than the aluminium shells of the first batch, with wider arches for bigger wheels, a roll cage, long-range fuel system and a more heavily tuned 4.4-litre Colombo V12. Output on the 1972 cars was around 400 hp, up from the roughly 350 hp of the earlier race cars and well above the road Daytona. Pozzi’s French yellow-and-blue livery is the scheme the car is still associated with.

It was not a one-off result. The same chassis raced the Tour de France that season for Pozzi, then returned to Le Mans in 1973 and finished ninth overall and second in class—its last contemporary outing. The 1973 GT win went to a different Pozzi Daytona, with Ballot-Léna paired with Vic Elford. Since the mid-1990s, 15667 has been a regular in historic racing, still in the 1972 Ferrari France colours.

The wider story that weekend was the depth of the Daytona pack: five of them finished 5th through 9th, nine laps apart, and the slowest still covered more ground than the winning 7-litre Corvette in the over-5-litre GT class.
