“Pedro Diniz and the Arrows A19 Against the Rain”
This drawing captures Pedro Diniz battling the rain in his Arrows A19 Hart at the 1998 Italian GP.
The 1998 Italian GP was one to forget for Diniz, in a season to forget for Arrows. Diniz spun out on lap 10 after valiantly battling the rain in a recalcitrant and underpowered Arrows Hart. The Arrows A19 was designed by John Barnard, his last for Arrows, and it proved a disappointment and led to Barnard being replaced as Technical Director. The chassis was effective, but its Achilles heel was its unnecessarily-elaborate carbon fibre gearbox built at Barnard's behest. Diniz and Arrows parted company in acrimonious circumstances at the end of 1998 to cap a disappointing season compared to its promising 1997 campaign.
