Originally joining F1 as title sponsor to what was the March F1 team in 1987, Leyton House’s involvement grew until it ultimately purchased the team outright in mid 1989. The team’s competitive zenith was in 1988 with Adrian Newey’s effective March 881, but declined after that. The CG911 was its last car, and the first post-Newey design, and it proved fast for Gugelmin and Ivan Capelli, but its Ilmor engine was fragile.
