The Arrows A19 was designed by John Barnard, his last for Arrows, and it proved a disappointment and led to Barnard being replaced as Technical Director. The chassis was effective, but its Achilles heel was its unnecessarily-elaborate carbon fibre gearbox built at Barnard's behest.
